100 Good Wishes Quilt

We have decided to make a 100 Good Wishes Quilt or "Bai Jia Bei" for Grace. In the Northern region of China, it is customary to request 100 people to contribute a square of fabric that is then sewn into a quilt which will contain the luck, energy and good wishes of all of the contributors. The quilt becomes an heirloom and is passed down from generation to generation.

We would like to request your assistance in creating this important heirloom for our daughter. Here's what you need to do to participate:

Select a 100% cotton piece of fabric that you like. It can be from a piece of clothing or simply be a design or color that you like. Please pre-wash the fabric so it is pre-shrunk when you cut your piece from it. Then, cut a 7x7" square of fabric. On a 4x6" card (card-stock, index card, etc.) glue a small sample of the fabric and write a "Good Wish" for Grace. A good wish is simply whatever you wish for the life of a newborn child. You can also include poems or sayings that you like for a child. Also include your name, date and where you are from. We will compile the good wishes into a scrapbook that she will be able look at when she gets older to see who each corresponding piece of fabric on her quilt is from. Your good wish card can be embellished and decorated in any way you like. If you have multiple members in your family or know someone who may like to participate, ask them to submit a good wish and square of fabric, too!

Thank you to my adoption pals who submitted these quilt squares and good wishes!

We will be having Original Quilts make Grace's quilt. You can view their website here to see samples of their work. This is the quilt that we have chosen for them to make for us.

We deeply appreciate the time and thoughtfulness you're putting into this keepsake for Grace. It's important to us that Grace is aware of how much she was loved and thought of before she even came into our home. She is already very much in our hearts.

Please email me or leave a comment and I will respond to you with our mailing address. Again, thank you.
