Meet Mr. Picklepaw
Since I have a love for books and reading, it's important to me that we have a nice library of books for Grace, and read to her daily. I thought that in order for her book selection to be complete, Tom and I should include our favorite childhood books. Since I no longer have mine and it is out-of-print, I was able to find it on eBay. "Mr. Picklepaw's Popcorn" is about a farmer who stored his popcorn in a metal shed, and on one hot day, the popcorn began to pop uncontrollably. Pretty funny stuff if you're a kid, not so much if you're Mr. Picklepaw. Tom's favorite book was the original "Clifford the Big Red Dog", which we still have to purchase. So, what was YOUR favorite book as a child?

I loved the entire Black Stallion series. (Not for teeny kids, more grade school reading). I cried when I read the last book and knew there weren't any more.
Mr. Picklepaw huh? I'm gonna have to somehow check that out! The books that pop into my head were the chapter books when I was older. I loved loved loved Beverly Cleary who wrote all the Ramona books. That Ramona. I loved that girl. And a little known Beverly Cleary book called Emily's Runaway Immagination was one of my all-time faves. I totally planned on getting that for Lily and am quite sure it's not in print. Thanks for the ebay idea. I'm gonna have to think on the picture books. I've been around teenagers so long I've forgotten about the little kid books. Let me think on this one and get back to you.......
M3...that's how I feel about Sophie Kinsella's Shopaholic books! I hate finishing the latest one and not knowing when the next one will come out!
Jac...I LOVED the Beverly Cleary books, too. Also liked Judy Blume when I got a little older. I wish I would have kept all of those!
One of my favorites was called (and I hope I remember this right...) "Danny and the Dinosaur".
Oh! And another B. Cleary book...... Socks. About a cat. Loved it!
Oooh my favorite books were the Golden Books! I loved them all! My mom read them to me so often that at 2 1/2 years old, I memorized some of the stories!
The 3 I remember well are:
The Little Red Caboose
The Saggy Baggy Elephant
The Elves and the Shoemaker
My Favorite Childhood book (which I still own!) is Tikki Tikki Tembo and it's a story about why parents in China gives their kids short little names. How funny is that?
My son *loves* Tikki Tikki Tembo.
My favorite book was The Pretty Little House That Found Happiness about a family that was unhappy until they adopted a baby. Yes, I'm adopted!
It's out-of-print, unfortunately.
I loved anything by Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary. Mr. Popper's Penguins is cute. Anything by Dr. Seuss is a winner.
Happy B-Day Kim! You still look "young as your pictures"
(but, maybe it's time to drop the bottle).
Happy-Happy!
