The New Me

I admit it, I'm high maintenance. I'm a girly girl and love beauty stuff. There's a new anti-aging cream on the market? I'll try it. Green eyeshadow is in? Sign me up. In my effort to prepare for motherhood, I have felt the need to change my ways. I have come to the realization that I will no longer have the time nor the budget to keep it up, so I've decided to slowly incorporate changes into my life so it won't come as a big shock when I don't have 20 minutes to spend in the shower when Grace is finally in our lives. Here are the changes that I have implemented:

1. Tame down the highlights. Up until 3 weeks ago, I had very light blonde highlights in my hair. Not anymore. I had my highlights darkened so my roots don't show so much. What's the big deal about this you might ask? Well, instead of spending mega-bucks every 6 weeks, I will be able to go longer without hitting the bottle.

2. Shorten the shower. I have cut my shower time down from 20 minutes to 10 minutes, just enough time to scrub, shampoo, condition and shave. I must shave daily. I can't stand stubble.

3. Good bye Glamour Girl. I mean come on, who needs 25 eyeshadows, 5 blushes, and 10 lipsticks for one face? I thought I did, but I don't. Plus, make-upping takes a lot of time. I've vowed to cut my makeup time down by half, thus reducing my make-up expeditures. I will buy only the basics as needed and use up everything else. I've stock-piled enough make up to supply Dillards for at least two months.

4. Lotions and Potions. Do you know how much a bottle of body lotion is at Bath and Body Works? $9. I can get 3 Vaseline Advanced Care lotions for that and the bottles are bigger. Sorry B&BW. I will no longer smell like Cherry Blossoms and Juniper Breezes.

5. No more foo-foo juice. I don't need 5 different kinds of perfumes. Granted, most of them were given to me as gifts, but maybe I could be more practical in my gift requests in the future. One perfume, Rapture from Victoria's Secret, will do the trick.

I know there's more I can do, but I think this is a pretty good start. My next project is curbing Tom's appetite for dining out at lunch almost daily. And for those of you who don't know me personally, I really am NOT a superficial bimbette. I've simply had too much time for myself for too long. I am so looking forward to spending that time with our daughter. The saying "less is more" really is true. Less time on me, more time on Grace.

I'm with ya, sister. This, I think is the first sign that we are becoming mothers. Cutting back on our stuff so there is more time and moola for our kidlets. Does that mean I have to get rid of my acrylic nails? Yikes!

Hey gals!! You guys are right on the money about spending less on yourself and more on your kids. It happens -- you will hardley buy for yourself once your little ones arrive. I have to say, Delaynee loves polish, lipstick, and anything else she can get her little hands on! DO remember to take care of yourself -- Give yourself a special treat once a month at least -- pedicures, a tube of lipstick -- a new outfit, etc. I have to do this, because - I get to feeling like a slob - I feel frumpy and lets face it, if MAMA ain't happy, ain't nobody happy! LOL!

Don't give up all your girly pleasures! If an hour out of the house to get a manicure and pedicure makes you feel good, than I say do it.

But the highlight thing? Yeah, I'm with you. My roots are showing now and I just told my husband that I need to make a change and stop dropping so much money on my hair every 6 weeks.

You've definitely got the right focus!

You guys are right about splurging once a month or so. I'll go crazy if I can't get my beauty fix once in a while. When I realized that I was spending hundreds of dollars a month, I knew it was time to put myself on a spending diet. Now if I could only do as well with my regular diet...

To preserve your sanity, you need to book "luxury" dates with yourself once you get back.

Wow. I am so inspired by you. I have perfected the 20 minutes from wake up to walk out look. I am not an early riser and always push the clock leaving for work. So that part I'm good on. I just started getting hi-lights this summer and I love my "sexy hair" or the boring rendition: "sun kissed look". That I can do without, I guess. I won't give up my pedi...love 'em. Will's gonna have to fly solo at some point. However, you have inspired me to take a quick gander to see where I can scale back. I'm so proud of you!
