Gracie Update
Hi everyone, sorry it's been so long since I posted, but we've been keeping plenty busy with our little Monkey girl and I've had a very difficult time getting onto Blogger. Here's a few highlights of what's been going on:
-She is attached to my hip and up until today I could not leave her site without her getting upset and crying. She has attached to me far more quickly than Tom, but they are making progress. On a side-note, Tom is an amazing father and is so in love with his little girl.
-She calls me Mama and Tom Baba and she answers to her new name. She is doing really well with understanding English words and commands. For example today after she used the potty, I told her to close the lid and she did. Every morning when we dress her in new clothes, she knows to take the tags and put them in the trash can. And she loves new clothes. I'm sure she never seen them before.
-English words that she can say so far are: Doggy (sounds like Dodgeit), Barret, Fishy, Please, One, No, and Brush.
-She is smart as a whip! On Wednesday we gave her a wooden puzzle with cut out shapes. She was able to master the puzzle on the first try. It is her favorite toy and she will play with it for hours. She loves to take the pieces out and point to the spot where they go and have us put them back. Yesterday, I observed her putting the puzzle pieces in her stuffed puppy's paws and then pretending that he was putting them in their respective spots.
-She is incredibly beautiful and sweet. Even more so than we ever imagined.
-She is tiny. All of her 24 month or 2T clothes are too big on her. Her pants fall right off. Yesterday we took a trip to a department store to try to find pants that fit her. It was hysterical because there must have been 10 Chinese women scrambling around to find pants that fit. It was like that scene from the movie Pretty Woman when Julia Roberts was shopping for clothes and being waited on hand and foot. And Grace was eating it up. She likes to shop. That's my girl.
-Tom took a trip on Thursday to visit her orphanage and came back in tears. It is a very cold, sterile environment...almost like a santiarium. It hurts to know that our daughter spent almost 2.5 years in that environment.
-I saved the best for last. Today she said to me "Mama, wu ai ne", which translates to Momma, I love you. What could be better than that. Momma loves you too Grace-Face.
I've tried adding pictures but Blogger is being stubborn and won't let me, so I'll try again another time.

Wow! What an awesome first week you've had together! It's a perfect fit!
I love the puppy/puzzle blip. And how sweet it must have felt to hear those words.
I have goosebumps! I'm so happy for you and so excited for your whole family.
lots of love from all of us
Eyes full of tears and a heart full of happiness for all of you!!
Yes orphanages are cold sterile places in many cases anyway. So glad our Elia will not be spending this winter there. She too is in her own warm home, with a mom and dad who absolutely cherish her.
Beautiful, just beautiful! I am so happy for you! I got chills when I read that she said, "I love you"!!!
